Labor Day: How it Came About; What it Means
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
As referenced by the US Department of Labor US DOL website
So with that being said, why do people try to tie patriotism to Labor day? You're not being patriotic by celebrating Labor day, you're not being patriotic for working on labor day.
We celebrated my birthday on Labor Day and when we went to purchase a cake for the party, all the cakes were Red, White and Blue. We were perplexed because WHY, do people ignorantly tie it to a “Patriotic holiday”
Labor Day is an annual holiday celebrated all over the world that resulted from the labor union movement, to celebrate the economic and social achievements of workers. The majority of countries celebrate Labor Day on May 1, and it is popularly known as May Day and International Workers' Day, while some celebrate on the first Monday of September.
The celebration of Labor Day has its origins in the eight hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.
I am all for celebrating America, and Patriotism, especially because of our brother, who’s a Marine that fought for OUR country in a war.
HOWEVER it makes us look very ignorant that we tie this holiday to patriotism!
