Thankful Thursdays!

thankfulthursday

This week I am thankful for my mother. I have an amazing mother. I think everyone says that but my mother is unique in many ways.

She knew when she was younger she wanted to be a stay at home mother,it’s in her DNA to be a nurturer and to take care of her babies.

Growing up she always packed our lunches, and it would be something wonderful, it was nothing prepackaged! She would include little notes to us in our lunch boxes! She would pack my frozen Hi-C in tin foil, so by lunch time we’d have a delicious slushy treat!

She would make sure at the end of each day we did our homework, and she was always willing to help with our homework, even if it meant drawing a poster for us, (which later won an award! We felt so guilty)

When we were little she took care of us, one time in a store a lady pushed one of us, and the next thing I know, I hear my mom saying “Listen lady, your rude,” She didn’t allow us to be pushed around by anyone!

She ALWAYS had dinner on the table at the end of the day as well. We ALWAYS sat as a family at the dinner table and ate together and talked!

During summers, she would plan fun outings for us. We had a reward system, and she had a “little store” where we could buy pencil sets, and fun little trinkets with our “earned” money for our good behavior and helping with chores.

As we got older she was the “Liaison” between us and our dad. When he didn’t understand his teenage daughters, she would “soften” him up for us so he would understand our point of view!

As we became adults, she became a confidant, a friend, she has become even more then a mother!

This week and always I am thankful for a mother, that is so selfless, she sits vigil at the bedside yet again as a loved one is dying.

HER 4 girls are wonderful girls because of who SHE is!

Thankful Thursdays

thankfulthursday

So my friend Tracy started doing Thankful Thursdays and so I decided to follow suit! HOWEVER, I have a million things that pop into my head when I think of what I am thankful for. So I decided I would do it week specific.

Something I am thankful for this week is for a 30 year plus friendship with someone. My crazy, fun, curly haired friend has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

party

When I try to remember things from my past where she was involved, I remember the play she was in, in high school. I remember watching her feed her toddler enzymes in applesauce so she could eat. I remember watching her do CPT treatments on her while she lay on the couch. I remember having a sleep over the night my baby sister was born. I remember visiting her very ill daughter in the hospital. I remember her being strong at her daughters funeral. I remember her welcoming me on my first day at work as a Labor and Delivery nurse! I remember standing beside her as we feared the worst regarding her fathers brain tumor!

She is someone who I truly have been to hell and back with. Someone who I can be honest with and tell her things I’m thinking, no matter how horrible they are and know that she’s not going to call to get me committed!!!

We can call each other in tears, and end up laughing, we can call each other at weird hours, and text at all hours!

She is someone who people used to have to do a double take at work because if I wore my hair curly or she wore hers straight, watch out we looked like the Bobbsey twins! And ironically we’d always wear the same color scrubs!!

group

She is someone who I can share my faith with, and my fear of my faith with. She is someone who understands my family dynamics, and the importance of my mother and father. She understands the bond of sisters.

I am so thankful for my special friend. She has been there for me tremendously, and the odd thing is, she doesn’t even realize how therapeutic our talks are!

She is the one whose life is in peril right now, and she still manages to lend her shoulder.
